Nobody likes having extra fat anywhere on their body, but your face is quite possibly the single most annoying place it can reside.
Your face is where everyone looks when you speak. It is your identity. Gaining weight on the face can destroy your self confidence way faster than weight gain anywhere else.
If you’re dealing with this problem, one thing’s for sure: You want it fixed, and as soon as possible.
Let’s take a closer look at this problem, and what you can do to solve it.
First, it’s a good idea to consider whether your problems really are caused by actual fat, or if it could instead be water retention. The face is the first place to become bloated or puffy when water retention is an issue. The good news is, this is much faster to fix than burning actual fat. Even if you’re not sure that your problems could be caused by water retention, it’s well worth the time to try a few quick fixes first.
1.) Increase your water intake. Water retention happens when your body tries to store extra water as a precautionary measure. When your body sees that you’re consuming plenty of water, it decides you’re not in immediate danger of severe dehydration, and it signals the body to stop retaining water. For best results, try to drink at least 64 ounces (a half gallon) of water every day.
2.) Cut out added salt and refined sugars. These ingredients (especially salt) signal the body to store water. Reducing your consumption of both of these will help minimize facial puffiness.
3.) Avoid alcohol, at least while you’re doing this test. Alcohol is one of the leading causes of ongoing dehydration, and when your body decides it’s dehydrated, that’s when it makes the decision to start retaining water.
Follow these steps for a full week, then check your results to see if your face fat is really just water retention.
Let’s assume you’ve done the water retention test above, and you’re still dealing with face fat. In this case, it’s time to get serious about burning that fat.
Now, I’m afraid I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news: There’s nothing you can do to lose weight from just your face, or any other specific body area, for that matter. Your body alone decides where it wants to burn fat from first, and no exercise or diet can change that. The good news is that the face just so happens to be one of the first places from which many people lose weight, so it likely won’t take you long to notice some results.
What that means is that you’re going to have to work on losing total body fat in order to lose your face fat. Don’t worry, it will come off with some work – and your body will look better as an added bonus!
To start with, you’ll want to make some adjustments to your diet. Work on not only eating smaller portions less often, but also on cutting out junk. Compose your meals of lean, low calorie proteins, steamed veggies, and whole grains.
Also try to work on becoming more active. If you’re out of shape, a 20 minute jog every-other day (try Monday, Wednesday and Friday) is a great place to start. Over time, you’ll get in better shape, and can increase both the duration of the jogs and the number of days per week you jog.
Not everyone enjoys jogging, of course. If you’re not into that, that’s fine – but try to find an exercise you do enjoy in order to stay active.
