The 7 Day Cleanse: Step-by-Step Instructions

Feeling a bit sluggish, tired, or want to kick off your diet in a grand way? Then a cleanse might be exactly what you’ve been looking for!

A 7 day cleanse is the perfect amount of time – it’s long enough to get the job done, and short enough to stick with the plan without driving yourself crazy. After the 7 days, most people report feeling rejuvenated and full of energy, with a fresh mind – and they are at least 10 pounds lighter.

This cleanse is a bit different than most: It’s carefully designed to effectively cleanse your system without sending your body into full-on starvation mode. Most plans you read about will leave you feeling like a zombie with the flu, but this has been planned to still provide your body with the essential nutrients it needs to function throughout the day.

Another way this plan has been improved from the “common” cleanse is that you will be boosting your digestive function throughout the cleanse by increasing beneficial bacteria in your gut. This bacteria not only helps the cleanse become more effective, it also stays with you long after the cleanse is over, helping you to feel great all the time.

Let’s get to the 7 day plan! First, we’ll look at the things you’ll be doing every day during the cleanse, then we’ll break it down to specific food options for each individual day. The 7 Day Cleanse – Every Day:

These are the things you’ll do every day during the cleanse. Follow these steps closely:

1.) Drink lots of water. You’ll be flushing toxins from your system, and hydration will help with this process. Also, the more water you drink, the less your body will tend to hold on to stored water weight. Feel free to add citrus (oranges, lemon, or lime slices) to make your water more tasty.

2.) Start the day with a coffee cup of hot/warm water with lemon juice added. Lemon helps the cleansing process, and this can also be an ideal psychological replacement for coffee or tea if you are used to drinking those.

3.) Buy several large cans of vegetable soup. Check the ingredients – this must be pure vegetables and broth only (no pasta or anything else added). Eat this soup as often as you want. It will help keep you full, keep your energy levels up, and the veggies will assist with purifying your system.

4.) Eat one yogurt every day that contains live and active cultures. This is what will help increase the amount of beneficial digestive bacteria in your intestines. If in doubt, Activia® is a safe choice.

5.) Three times daily (breakfast, lunch, and dinner work) you’ll drink a protein shake. This will help maintain your energy levels and keep your metabolism running for increased fat loss. In a blender, mix half a banana, half an apple, a handful of spinach (don’t worry, the fruit will mask the taste – really!) and a scoop of either soy or whey protein. Add water and blend until smooth. You can mix this into a water bottle ahead of time if you need to have lunch on the go.

Follow these steps every day of your cleanse. In addition, here’s what you’ll eat on each specific day:

Day 1 – Veggie Day: The goal of today is to kick-start your cleanse with lots of veggies to clear out your system. Eat as many leafy green vegetables as possible. Feel free to steam them, but don’t add anything (such as butter or oil) when you cook them. Broccoli, spinach, greens, carrots – anything besides corn, beans and potatoes are fine. Eat as much of these as you can. You can also drink V8 juice if you’d like (not the kind with fruit added).

Days 2, 3 and 4 – Fruit & Veggies: For these three days, you get everything that was included on the first day, plus plenty of fresh fruit. Watermelon, apples, pears, peaches, oranges, and grapes are all great – plus any other fruit you’re in the mood for.

Day 5 – Fruit, Veggies & Brown Rice: Day 5 is the same as the last three days, except you’re now allowed brown rice. It’s important that this is brown rice (not white), and avoid cooking it in butter or oil. Enjoy a few servings throughout the day!

Days 6 and 7 – Adding More Protein: For the final two days, enjoy the same fruit, veggies & brown rice you had on the previous day, plus you get to enjoy a protein source. Choose either beef or black beans (an ideal option for vegetarians / vegans). This hot food will be a nice treat, and will help ease you back into a normal diet when the cleanse is complete.
